Dr. Tanya McCartney

Dr. Tanya Cecile McCartney is a UK-trained barrister, Chartered Banker, and seasoned leader in law, banking, compliance, and financial services. She holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Edinburgh Napier University, alongside degrees in law from the University of Reading and the London School of Economics, and advanced business qualifications including an MBA in Leadership and a Chartered Banker MBA. She is also a Certified Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering Specialist.
Her career began in the Office of the Attorney General. She later transitioned into the private sector, serving as legal counsel and compliance officer in the banking sector before rising to senior roles with RBC, including Managing Director of RBC FINCO. From 2015 to 2023, she served as CEO and Executive Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board, where she played a pivotal role in shaping strategy, fostering collaboration with policymakers, and promoting The Bahamas internationally as a financial centre.
Dr. McCartney has also contributed to public service as a Senator, board member, and leader in professional associations, including founding President of the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers. Her impact has been recognized with the Bahamas ICON Award for financial services and International Investment’s Woman of the Year “Highly Commended” Award. She is the author of Strategies for Success: A Roadmap for the Compliance Professional in Financial Services and currently serves as President of GEM Management & Advisory Services Ltd. and Assistant Professor of Law at The University of The Bahamas.
Dr. McCartney was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of The Private Trust Corporation Limited on June 29, 2025.
